Breastfeeding and the NICU Baby

So you planned your perfect birth and breastfeeding scenario. Then, it all goes awry. Your baby is sent to NICU for whatever reason and your recovering elsewhere. You don’t get to breastfeed in the 1st hour of your baby’s life, sometimes not even within the 1st day or two. What do you do to protect lactation? What do you do to get baby back to breast if he/she has already received bottles? We’ll talk with Christine Grattan, IBCLC, lactation Consultant at Scripps Mercy of San Diego Hospital about pumping and breastfeeding through the NICU experience.
